Last week was the House Third Reading Deadline – here’s what you missed.
Moving Bills
Last Friday was the deadline to pass our bills through the House before they can be heard in the Senate. I was happy to pass three pieces of legislation through the House and will continue advocating for them to be passed in the Senate.
- HB 4867 allows for additional work vehicles to use green (along with amber and white) flashing or rotating lights. This will help protect workers and motorists by making active work zones easier to identify and navigate safely, and the idea came directly from a constituent.
- HB 4934 is another constituent initiative, and it creates a sickle cell disease awareness license plate decal and sets up a special fund to support sickle cell programs. Shout out to Tammy Smith and her daughter Precious, who advocated for the passage of this bill.
- HB 4868 updates the Nursing Home Care Act to clarify reporting requirements when something serious happens in a nursing home.
I am now reviewing legislation that passed their chamber and heads to the House. I am the House Sponsor on SB 3951 from Senator Erica Harriss, which gives local governments the opportunity to mark the location of a fire hydrant or water supply with a blue marking. This idea came from a constituent of ours.
Honoring Cpl. Tommy N. Miller
I could not be happier that the House and Senate adopted HJR 6 to designation a portion of IL Route 140 through Meadowbrook as the ‘Cpl. Tommy N. Miller Memorial Highway’. I am honored to have been able to finally get this across the finish line for the Miller family.

Joining 2A Advocates
I was proud to stand up for our Second Amendment Rights at the Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD). Our rights are not up for grabs, and we will keep up the fight against Democrats in Springfield who will stop at nothing to come after our firearms.
Senior Fraud Protection & Advocacy Seminar
Too many seniors are being targeted by increasingly sophisticated scams. This seminar is about empowering older adults with the tools and knowledge they need to protect themselves. I’m happy to partner with Senator Harriss and the Attorney General’s Office to bring these resources directly to our community
Representative Elik & Senator Harriss to Host FREE Community Shred Event and Clean Up Day in Wood River
Our previous shred events have been incredibly successful, with hundreds of residents participating and thousands of pounds of documents safely destroyed and recycled. We’re excited to host another great event and to expand it by supporting several local organizations through donations while recognizing Earth Month.

Photo Dump! Happy to see so many local visitors at the Capitol and attend local events.
Back to Springfield this week
The House is back in Session tomorrow. You can follow the action live at ilga.gov. Please remember to reach out to my office if you have any questions or concerns regarding a state agency. It is an honor to serve!
