I am very pleased that all five Senate bills I was Chief Sponsor of passed through House committees unanimously this week. Thank you to my colleagues for your support and I look forward to these bills passing on the House Floor and being signed into law.
- Senate Bill 2987 amends the current school code regarding school board member training and states that the training must include the topic of improving student outcomes and information that is relevant to and within the scope of duties of a school board member.
- Senate Bill 3430 addresses the Medicaid 5-year look-back period. It requires the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to develop, post online, and maintain an informational guide on the Medicaid 5-year look-back period. This guide will explain the 5-year look-back period as it applies for eligibility for long-term care coverage. Real-life examples and scenarios will help provide insight for the public.
- Senate Bill 3567 amends the Truth in Taxation law in the Property Tax Code. It requires that Truth in Taxation notices be posted on the taxing district’s website for at least 30 days, and it also stipulates that the notice should be posted near the top of the website’s homepage or on a page accessible through a direct link from the homepage.
- Senate Bill 3571 requires school districts to have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on-site at all attendance centers, and also having an AED available after regular school hours during all school-sponsored activities on school grounds.
- Senate Bill 3566 amends the Environmental Protection Act and provides that, starting January 1, 2025, landfills in counties with a population over 250,000 shall provide and operate facilities to clean the wheels and undercarriages of vehicles departing the landfill.
