“You know that saying, “take 24 hours to respond so you don’t say something you regret”. Well, it’s been 24 hours and I’m no less angry and disgusted than I was when I heard this news yesterday. And I won’t regret what I’m about to say.
“One of the Illinois House Democrats was indicted yesterday in a federal case that alleges she, her husband and her daughter all took part in a scheme to bilk both taxpayers and campaign donors out of money, to direct that money to themselves. All three of them have been elected officials in Champaign County. I am especially sickened by what’s alleged here because THIS is EXACTLY WHY people think politicians are crooks and only out for themselves. This is EXACTLY WHY people don’t trust government! And who could blame us for that mistrust and disgust after seeing the indictments? This announcement comes on the heels of another House Democrat resigning last week after an investigation into alleged sexual harassment complaints. We don’t know exactly what happened here because this is an internal investigation that has not been released, but hopefully will at some point soon.
“Here’s what I know: elected officials should be held to high ethical standards and must take the responsibility of our jobs very seriously and then act with honesty, sincerity and the best interests of the PEOPLE, not themselves, every single day. There will be more on this topic very soon, but for now, just know that I am disgusted and angry too, and I expect so much more from people in positions of trust and power in our state.”
