Rep. Amy Elik Ranked One of Illinois’ Most Effective Legislators

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Amy Elik (R-Alton) has been ranked one of the most effective lawmakers in the General Assembly by the Center for Effective Lawmaking.

“It is an honor to be recognized as one of the most effective legislators in Illinois,” said Rep. Elik. “The people I represent do not care about political theater – they care about results. I always fight to deliver.”

The Center for Effective Lawmaking, a nonpartisan research group made up of Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia, recently released their report ranking the effectiveness of legislators. According to Craig Volden, a public policy professor at the University of Virginia and co-author of the study, there are many reasons a lawmaker might be considered effective – such as having strong knowledge in certain policy areas.

“As a Republican in a Democratic Supermajority legislature, it is an uphill battle to get bills across the finish line. That’s why it’s so special for me to be recognized as an effective lawmaker,” Elik continued. “It is always worth it to come back to the Riverbend and see the positive effects my legislative priorities have on the district.”

Elik’s effective legislative abilities have led to multiple initiatives being signed into law, including protecting children and families (HB 2618), ensuring Illinois is taking care of those in assisted living facilities (HB 2179), slashing red tape to allow efficient operations at America’s Central Port (HB 2139), and more.
