State Representative Amy Elik (R-Alton) released the following statement following former House Speaker Michael J. Madigan reporting to Federal Prison in West Virginia:
“Yesterday, former House Speaker Michael J. Madigan reported to prison to serve a 7 1/2 year sentence for corruption charges. I can honestly say that I’m shocked that we have finally seen the day where he is held accountable. It’s sad that the residents of Illinois were held captive under the reign of a corrupt politician for so long, and the stain of Madigan’s corruption is still deeply woven into the fabric of the Illinois Democrats who still operate under the Madigan Way today. Illinois residents are ready for real ethics reform, but the Democratic leaders have not yet found the courage to join us in trying to restore some faith in state government.”
